Travel with us to Africa!
Global Alliance for Africa is a non-profit organization based in Chicago (U.S.), Nairobi (Kenya), and Arusha (Tanzania). We focus on sustainable programs that benefit vulnerable children and women in East Africa. We have community library and therapeutic arts programs that are directed to vulnerable children and families, and a small microfinance program for women. Our partners work to empower girls and women.
One of the ways we fund our programs is by hosting trips to Africa. Global Alliance for Africa has been leading groups to Africa since the 1990’s. We have led dozens of trips over the years, including:
Hike Mt. Kilimanjaro
Graduate and undergraduate study trips
High school student educational and service trips
Therapeutic Arts trips
Photo safaris in East African game parks
Arts and culture trips for artists and non-artists
Therapeutic Arts trips
Volunteer trips for adults with a service component.
We also plan custom trips for individuals, families and groups. Most of our trip participants are women. We work with sustainable lodges and hotels, local guides and drivers, and local artists.

Therapeutic Arts Trip
Each year, Global Alliance for Africa escorts a group ranging from 10-18 people to East Africa for what is known as a therapeutics art trip. During the approximately two-week trip, participants visit GAA art programs and art partners in both rural and urban settings. Travelers become acquainted with our African artist partners and work alongside them to conduct workshops and skill shares for individuals working with vulnerable children and youth. The trip includes a safari as well as a variety of cultural activities.
The Kilimanjaro Climb
The Kilimanjaro Climb is a unique fund-raising event for the benefit of African children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. From six to fourteen individuals climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to earn donations from sponsors recruited by each climber. Certain to be a life alterning experience, the trip is designed to acquaint the group with Global Alliance for Africa’s unique and integrated approach to providing assistance for children orphaned by HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa. You will have the opportunity to visit Global Alliance programs as well as see Africa from the roof of the world!
Executive Director's Trip
The Executive Director’s Trip is an introduction to East Africa by the Executive Director of GAA. You will visit the ED’s favorite cities, hotels, restaurants, and sights, and he will provide you with a detailed explanation of the history, politics, economics, social movements, and development successes and failures that make East Africa what it is today.
Customized Educational Trips
Global Alliance for Africa arranges unique trips to Kenya, Tanzania and Ethiopia. Our trips are designed and customized to meet the interests and needs of each group, and always include an educational component of development work, as well as visits to our local African partners with whom we work to sustainably support for orphans and vulnerable children affected by HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa.
