John and I have been gathering gear, getting prescriptions/shots and training for our climb. We have gotten a few long walks done but it's getting harder to do with the shorter days. John has taken to walking around our neighborhood at night with his headlamp and high-visibility vest. We have both logged countless miles on our elliptical machine and on the dreaded stairmaster torture machine at our gym. We are nervous and excited at the same time and we truly appreciate the support of our friends, family and fellow team members. Onward and upward!

Global Alliance for Africa (GAA) is a 501c(3) organization headquartered in Chicago, Illinois with offices in Nairobi, Kenya; Arusha, Tanzania and Monrovia Liberia.
Our mission is to provide care and support for orphans and vulnerable children who have been affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa.
We do so by partnering with African NGOs, faith-based organizations, and local women's co-operatives to design and implement innovative small business development and micro-enterprise initiatives with the goal of enabling families and communities to provide sustainable care and support for these orphans on their own.
Our approach helps households and communities to build the capacities to provide children with shelter, education, health care, food security, psycho-social support and legal representation.
We also provide educational opportunities through vocational training and scholarship programs so that orphans between the ages of 17-23 can find jobs in the formal sector of the economy.
