About Global Alliance for Africa

Global Alliance for Africa (GAA) is a 501c(3) organization headquartered in Chicago, Illinois with offices in Nairobi, Kenya; Arusha, Tanzania and Monrovia Liberia.

Our mission is to provide care and support for orphans and vulnerable children who have been affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa.

We do so by partnering with African NGOs, faith-based organizations, and local women's co-operatives to design and implement innovative small business development and micro-enterprise initiatives with the goal of enabling families and communities to provide sustainable care and support for these orphans on their own.

Our approach helps households and communities to build the capacities to provide children with shelter, education, health care, food security, psycho-social support and legal representation.

We also provide educational opportunities through vocational training and scholarship programs so that orphans between the ages of 17-23 can find jobs in the formal sector of the economy.

My personal message:

Thank you for taking the time to visit this campaign site and for your interest in helping me to help the children of east Africa!

This is my story in a nutshell: I have always known I wanted to help others and to travel. Throughout my undergraduate studies in social work, to my travels as an English tutor in Spain, I have grown to realize my passions in working with children and art therapy.

From July 28th to August 12th of this miraculous year of 2012, I am taking the opportunity that has been presented to me to travel to east Africa for what I like to call, "adventure philanthropy" or "travel with a purpose."
As a graduate student of Art Therapy, I am asking for your assistance to accomplish this opportunity and dream. Through Global Alliance's Therapeutic Arts trip I will be able to combine these passions of helping children, art, and travel. I couldn't be more excited! I know it will be a life-changing experience.

I will be raising donations and selling my artwork and prints of my paintings with a goal of raising $3000 by May. I am covering the cost of airfare. Your donations will go to areas such as: food, lodging, & program expenses (salaries and vocational training of local art directors & social workers, art materials & snacks, instruments, and the costs to keep the program running).
