  Legal Services
This component of our program will provide legal services and assistance to women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Tanzania. The purpose of the program is to ensure that widows and orphans of men who have died, particularly from AIDS and its complications, are made aware of their rights and that these legal rights are adequately protected. The program will also provide psychosocial support to the widows, vulnerable children, orphans and their foster parents.

Specific assistance will therefore be provided regarding inheritance/probate/wills/estates & guardianships utilizing the following actions:
  • Education and training of organization staff
  • Community educational campaigns for women
  • Meetings with community leaders
  • Training of para-legal assistants to prepare documents for legal practitioners
  • Arranging pro bono legal practitioners
  • Collaboration with existing office-based organizations
  • Supporting proposed legislation that affects the rights of widows and orphans

Specific social services will include:
  • Training of foster parents on issues of loss, grief, family dynamics
  • Group Therapy support for orphans to deal with the adjustment to a new family, and parental loss
  • Coordination with community linkages and resources for necessary social and economic support
